A mug with 4 ‘andles?

Sometimes I feel like I can never quite get it right. We recently took stock of a Golfing mug with 3 handles. THREE handles! It has a slogan and is obviously aimed at being a novelty gift for your golfing family and friends. So I was monitoring the search requests on the site to see what people search for. What do I see: “4 handles”. Four?!!

I own a mug business. I look at hundreds of mugs every day. I own thousands of different mugs. Once in a while we (my wife) decides that we need new mugs at home. My choice is always a set of 6 AC/DC mugs but this isn’t taken seriously. Choosing a set of 6 nice mugs for home is actually quite hard when you have such a lot of choice. We eventually went for the Jamie Oliver cosy mug with a very subtle white on white pattern. They are chunky and tough feeling while remaining extremely beautiful and elegant. I was a little dubious at first about having a slightly more expensive mug at home (with a 2 year old roaming wild) but they actually feel like they might withstand quite a bashing. We’re yet to find out. Luckily.

Back from the mighty dead…

It was discontinued by the supplier some time ago so I relegated it to the mug graveyard in the sky but now it’s back amazingly! The mighty Boosh mug – My Mighty Mug was one of our best sellers in its day and then was taken from us too young, too early.

Highest form of flattery?

They say “Immitation is the highest form of flattery” don’t they? The trouble is when you find someone who has copied your work it does make you wonder. At MugBug we pride ourselves on the fact that we don’t just copy and paste a description from the manufacturer, we write a custom description personally. Then when we find our description on someone else’s site we get a little bit peeved…but should we?

Homer Simpson mug, If Something’s Hard To Do It’s Not Worth Doing. We wrote a quirky little description that included the phrase:

The perfect gift: everyone loves Homer, everyone drinks tea! *
* Excludes some people who don’t drink tea and others who don’t like Homer.

When I was then browsing the inter-tubes I found this site using EXACTLY the same description that I had written. It actually made me laugh, the bit about “Excludes people who don’t like tea or Homer,” which is a bit sad I guess.

Dr. Who mug for drinking?

I have decided to expand my mug blog to encompass other mugs of interest. I wasn’t particularly interested in mugs before I started MugBug but of course my passion for mugs has grown until I’m now always drawn straight to the mugs in a store to check out suppliers and prices. Sad I know.

So I thought I would bring to you my findings as I browse the web. New, innovative, exciting, unusual mugs from wherever I find them. The first is this Dr. Who mug. It doesn’t look, to me, to be used for drinking but rather for storage or as a keepsake. Even so it’s unusual and certainly aimed squarely at the Doctor Who fan.

Occassionally we have mugs arrive in stock that suprise me with their popularity. I know Audrey Hepburn is a very popular screen icon, at one time she was voted the most beautiful woman of all time, but I didn’t imagine this mug to be as popular as it is. Obviously there are still a large number of Hepburn fans around.

It’s a stylish fine china mug featuring a black & white photo of Audrey Hepburn complete with cigarette and holder complemented by a coaster or lid. The enclosed coaster can also be used as a lid to stop dust or bugs getting into your tea.

The Rolling Stones Tongue Logo Mug

We have taken stock of some iconic rock mugs recently. Not only do we have Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd and The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band but we also have some more unusual musical treats such as Kings of Leon, Only By The Night or the System Of A Down (SOAD) bomb logo mug.

Possibly one of the most iconic and sought after is the mouth and lips of Mick Jagger, as first shown on Sticky Fingers. The Rolling Stones tongue mug.
